Oxidative Stress and Lipid Peroxidation: Physiology and Pathology of 4-Hydroxynonenal

چکیده
Neutrophil polymorphonuclear granulocytes, the largest population of leukocytes, act as phagocytes within the humanimmune system. They posses a high potential to destroy tumor cells by oxidative and non-oxidative mechanisms. Thesemechanisms, with special emphasis on the myeloperoxidase-hydrogen peroxide-halide system, are described in thiscontribution as well as the defense strategies, which tumor cells employ to escape cytolysis.

Role of lipid peroxidation derived 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) in cancer: focusing on mitochondria.
Oxidative stress-induced lipid peroxidation has been associated with human physiology and diseases including cancer. Overwhelming data suggest that reactive lipid mediators generated from this process, such as 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), are biomarkers for oxidative stress and important players for mediating a number of signaling pathways. The biological effects of 4-HNE are primarily due to cova...

Reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxidation products are not only cytotoxic but may also modulate signal transduction in cells. Accordingly, antioxidants may be considered as modifiers of cellular redox signaling. Therefore, the effects of two novel synthetic antioxidants, analogues of 1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives, cerebrocrast and Z41-74 were analysed in vitro on human osteosarcoma cell ...
متن کاملEvidence that 4-hydroxynonenal mediates oxidative stress-induced neuronal apoptosis.
Oxidative stress is believed to play important roles in neuronal cell death associated with many different neurodegenerative conditions (e.g., Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and cerebral ischemia), and it is believed also that apoptosis is an important mode of cell death in these disorders. Membrane lipid peroxidation has been documented in the brain regions affected in these disorde...
متن کاملVitamin E protects rat testis, eye and erythrocyte from oxidative stress during exposure to radiofrequency wave generated by a BTS antenna model
Background: Radio frequency wave (RFW) generated by mobile phones and wireless communication systems has been reported to cause adverse effects on reproductive function, vision and hematological parameters, possibly through oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of RFW generated bybase transceiver station BTS on oxidative stress in testis, eye and erythrocyte, and th...
متن کاملRedox proteomics identification of 4-hydroxynonenal-modified brain proteins in Alzheimer's disease: Role of lipid peroxidation in Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis.
Numerous studies have shown that neuronal lipids are highly susceptible to oxidative stress including in those brain areas directly involved in the neurodegenerative process of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Lipid peroxidation directly damages membranes and also generates a number of secondary biologically active products (toxic aldehydes)that are capable of easily attacking lipids, proteins, and DN...
